Understanding 80G and 12A: Tax Benefits of Donating to Waste Pickers Welfare Foundation

One of the most common questions from first-time donors to Waste Pickers Welfare Foundation is the simplest: "Is my donation tax-deductible, and what do I actually need to claim it?" Here is a clean, practical walk-through.

Our Statutory Standing

  • 12A registration: AAATW4653R24DL01 — our own income is exempt from tax.
  • 80G certificate: AAATW4653R24DL02 — your donation to us is deductible.
  • DARPAN (NITI Aayog): DL/20190246760 — required for receiving CSR and government funds.
  • CSR-1: DL/00027665 — registered with MCA to receive CSR contributions.
  • PAN: AAATW4653R

What Section 80G Actually Allows

Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961 permits a taxpayer — individual, HUF, or company — to deduct donations to approved institutions from taxable income. For donations to Waste Pickers Welfare Foundation, the standard applicable benefit is 50% of the donated amount, without any qualifying limit (subject to the 10%-of-adjusted-gross-total-income cap that Section 80G applies).

Illustration: If you donate ₹20,000 and fall in the 30% tax slab, the 50% deductible portion is ₹10,000 — on which the tax saving is approximately ₹3,120 (including cess). Net cost of giving: ₹16,880 for a ₹20,000 impact contribution.

What You Need to Claim

  1. An 80G receipt from us, carrying our registration number, your PAN, the date of receipt, and the amount in words and figures.
  2. The Form 10BE donation certificate — since FY 2021–22, every 80G donee is required to file Form 10BD with the Income Tax Department and issue you Form 10BE by 31st May of the following year. We file and issue these automatically to every donor who shares PAN at donation time.
  3. Proof of electronic transfer — cheque, NEFT, UPI, bank statement screenshot — because cash donations above ₹2,000 are not eligible for 80G.

How to Donate Correctly for Tax Efficiency

  • Share your PAN at the time of donation; without PAN we cannot file Form 10BD.
  • Use electronic modes — UPI, NEFT, RTGS, cheque. Avoid cash above ₹2,000.
  • Retain bank proof plus our receipt for the full six-year tax-assessment window.
